Mr Hartley

My first full time role at St. Andrews was as a teaching assistant in Year 6 starting in 2014. I worked in Year 6 full time for four years. Towards the end of my four years I had experience working in every year group throughout the school whilst covering the class teachers.

At the end of my fourth year at this school, things changed as I left to work for Royal Caribbean on their cruises as part of their youth staff working with children aged 3-17. I worked around Asia for 6 months and then the Caribbean for 6 months. After two contracts I came back to St. Andrews in 2019 and was given the opportunity to complete a course to become a fully qualified teacher which I have completed during lockdown. I have now taught for 4 years and this will be my second year teaching Year 5 which is something I am extremely happy and excited about.

On a personal note I am very much into my sport. I have played and watched every sport you could think of at some point during my life, with football ranking at the top. I have also completed numerous types of events for charity. I also have a dog called Marley, who I love taking for long walks come rain or shine.

Mrs. Standen

We are very lucky to have Mrs. Standen with us in class 5 this year, who should be very familiar to most of you. Mrs. Standen who has worked at St. Andrews for over 15 years. She likes walking her two dogs and socialising with her friends.

Topics

The topics we will be covering this year are:

  • Autumn 1 - Vicious Vikings
  • Autumn 2 - What is China like?
  • Spring 1 - Whole school Geography - Aspirational Heroes
  • Spring 2 - Earth Matters
  • Summer 1 - World War 2
  • Summer 2 - World War 2

Homework

Children will be set English, Maths and/or Topic homework weekly. The homework will relate to the work we have been doing in class that week or the work we will be doing in the upcoming week. Homework will be set on a Friday and children can receive £3 (School money) if they bring it back on Monday, £2 Tuesday and £1 Wednesday.

Key dates to remember

Your child's PE lessons will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday meaning children need to bring in their PE kits every Monday or be left in school. Full PE kit is expected during lessons with pumps that fit in case we decide to work outside and no jewellery is to be worn on this day.

In Year 5 we have an open door policy. If you have anything that you would like to discuss, please don't hesitate to come into school and speak to us. I will also be available on Dojo and Seesaw. If you would like to follow my school Twitter account, you can find me @Mr.Hartley21

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to the year ahead.
