Year 2

Mr Burns
I came to St Andrew’s Primary School in June 2009 working with year 2, and started teaching Year 4 for the first time last September. I am now working in Year 2 again and am looking forward to all the work we are going to be doing this year. I studied primary teaching with a specialism in PE through Edge Hill University over three years and am now working towards my masters degree in teaching and learning. I enjoy working with this age group as the children can start to take responsibility for their own learning and have fun whilst doing this. This year I am leading ICT and PE along with organising sports events for the school throughout the Hyndburn area.

On a personal level, I play ice hockey in Blackburn for the Lancashire Raptors English National Division 2 team and field hockey for the Ormskirk men’s hockey first team. I am a keen cyclist and play golf at Baxenden Golf Club. I also coach ice hockey to under 16s at Blackburn.

In year 2 we do lots of different and exciting topics. We start by learning about Emergency services and the fire of London before moving onto Dinosaurs after Christmas. In the summer term we study Oceans and seas and Night Time, decorating our classroom accordingly. We have lots of fun in class and our lessons are often very creative.

We are lucky enough to have Mrs Martin working with us this year in class. She has lots of experience working in school and through working in year 2 last year has developed a good understanding of this age level of children.
